About The Chart Mechanics
What is The Chart Mechanics?
A UK software and education studio for MetaTrader 4 and 5. We sell ready-made Expert Advisors and indicators, build custom tools to order, and run the Education hub: courses on forex, futures and MQL coding.
Who is behind it?
Dan Reynolds, a UK sole trader trading as The Chart Mechanics. Dan codes, tests and supports every tool himself.
Do you give trading signals, advice or manage accounts?
No. We provide software and education only. We never tell you what to trade, never trade for you and never hold your money. You decide every trade and every risk setting.
Do you publish results or profit screenshots?
No. Each tool is described by what it does and how it controls risk. Results depend on your broker, settings and the market, so we don't show P&L, win rates or backtests.
Which broker should I use?
Any broker that offers MT4 or MT5 and suits you. If you're in the UK, choose one authorised by the FCA. We have no broker partnerships and don't recommend a particular broker.
Buying
How do I buy?
Choose a tool or course, pick a licence where there is one, and pay through the secure checkout on its page. Our payment provider handles the payment as merchant of record, including VAT and receipts. We never see your card details.
Which prices do you charge?
Indicators £250 (Multi £400). TCM Trend EA – Major Pairs £300 (Multi £500). TCM Trend EA – Gold £400 (Multi £600). Forex Education £250, Futures Education £250, both together £400, MQL4 & MQL5 Coding Course £500. Prices are in pounds and include any VAT.
Why do you need my MetaTrader account number?
Every copy of a tool is built for the account numbers you give at checkout, so it only runs for you. You'll find yours in MetaTrader at the top of the Navigator window or under File › Login to Trade Account. We never need your password.
How quickly will I get it?
Courses arrive by email straight after payment. Tools are built for your account and emailed within 1 working day. Custom builds are delivered on the date agreed in your specification.
Are there free trials or demo copies?
No. Every copy is built and licensed for a paying customer's account, so we don't send out trial or demo copies. Each product page lists what the tool does and every setting, and we're happy to answer questions before you buy.
Can I pay by bank transfer or PayPal?
Use the payment methods shown at checkout. For a custom build or white-label project, ask us about paying by bank transfer.
Do I get an invoice?
Yes. Your receipt is emailed by our payment provider and is also on your order page.
Licences
What's the difference between Single and Multi?
Single covers one MetaTrader account. Multi covers up to three. Both include the MT4 and MT5 file, the setup guide, updates for your version and email support.
Does a demo account count as one of my accounts?
Yes. Any account you register, demo or live, MT4 or MT5, uses one of your licence's account slots.
Do I get both the MT4 and MT5 versions?
Yes, every tool licence includes both files, so you can switch platform without buying again.
Can I use it on more than one computer?
Yes. The licence is tied to your trading account number, not to a computer, so it works on your PC, laptop and VPS. Don't run the same EA on the same account in two places at once.
What if I change broker or open a new account?
Email us your order number, the old account number and the new one. We'll send a re-issued file within 1 working day.
Can I upgrade from Single to Multi?
Yes. Pay the difference between the two prices and we'll add your extra accounts.
How long does the licence last?
For life, for the version you bought, including free fixes and improvements to that version.
Can I get the source code?
Not for ready-made tools. You receive compiled .ex4 and .ex5 files. Source code is available with custom builds and white label.
Can I share or resell a tool?
No. A licence is personal to you and the accounts registered to it. Sharing, uploading or reselling the files ends the licence, and the copy won't run on anyone else's account anyway.
Expert Advisors
What is an Expert Advisor?
A program that runs inside MetaTrader and opens, manages and closes trades for you within the rules and limits you set. It trades on your own account with your own broker.
What's the difference between the Major Pairs and Gold EAs?
Both are trend-following and share the same risk controls. Major Pairs is set up for currencies such as EUR/USD, GBP/USD and USD/JPY and trades 07:00–20:00 UK time (H1 chart recommended). Gold is set up for XAUUSD and trades 08:00–20:00 UK time with an earlier Friday cut-off (M15 chart recommended).
What risk controls do they have?
A stop-loss and take-profit on every trade, position size from your chosen risk per trade (0.01% to 5% of equity) or a fixed lot, a daily loss limit (default 3%), UK-time trading hours, a Friday cut-off, a spread check and a margin check. There's no grid, martingale or averaging down.
Do I need a VPS?
Strongly recommended. An EA only works while MetaTrader is running, so most people use a Windows VPS that stays on 24/5. See the VPS guide.
Can I run it on several pairs at once?
Yes. Attach it to one chart per symbol on the same account. Each chart manages its own trade.
Can I run it alongside other EAs?
Yes. Each TCM EA uses its own magic number (7701 for Major Pairs, 7702 for Gold) so it only manages its own trades.
Does it work on prop-firm accounts?
It runs on any MT4 or MT5 account it's licensed for. Check the firm's rules on EAs, daily loss, news trading and holding over weekends against the settings first. If a firm needs something the settings don't cover, ask about a custom build.
Can I change the settings?
Yes: risk, daily loss limit, trading hours, Friday cut-off, weekend close, maximum spread, break-even, trailing stop and partial close. How the EA finds its setups is fixed and kept private.
What happens if my computer or MetaTrader turns off?
The EA stops. Open trades keep their stop-loss and take-profit at your broker, but nothing is managed until MetaTrader runs again.
Can I test it before trading live?
Once you own it, you can run it in MetaTrader's Strategy Tester on your broker's prices, and start live with a small risk setting.
Indicators
What does an indicator do?
It marks the chart and alerts you. It never places trades: you decide whether to act.
Which indicator is right for me?
The Trend Indicator marks trend setups with entry, stop and target. The SMC Indicator draws supply and demand zones, structure breaks, liquidity grabs and fair value gaps. The ORB Indicator boxes the Asia, London and New York opening ranges and alerts on breakouts. The tools page has a quick chooser.
Do the indicators repaint?
No. Arrows and labels are drawn only once their candle has closed, and they don't move or disappear afterwards.
Can I get alerts on my phone?
Yes. Each indicator can send push notifications to the MetaTrader app. Add your MetaQuotes ID in MetaTrader's options and switch on phone notifications in the indicator's inputs.
Which symbols and timeframes do they work on?
Any symbol your broker offers, including forex, gold and indices. The Trend Indicator works on any timeframe, the SMC Indicator suits M15 to H4, and the ORB Indicator works best on M5 to M30 around the session opens.
Can I use more than one indicator together?
Yes. Each is licensed separately and they can share a chart.
Installing and technical
How do I install a tool?
Copy the file into MetaTrader's data folder (MQL4\Indicators or MQL4\Experts, and the same under MQL5), refresh the Navigator and drag it onto a chart. The install guide has every step for MT4 and MT5.
Does it work on a Mac?
Yes, with MetaTrader's Mac app or Windows running in Parallels. For EAs, a Windows VPS is usually more reliable than a laptop.
The chart says "not licensed". What do I do?
The file was built for a different account number than the one you're logged in to. Check which account MetaTrader is using, then email us the number shown and we'll re-issue it.
Do I need to allow DLL imports or web requests?
No. TCM tools don't use DLLs or web requests. An EA only needs Algo Trading (MT5) or AutoTrading (MT4) switched on.
My broker calls the symbol something different. Is that a problem?
No. Attach the tool to your broker's symbol, such as GOLD, XAUUSD.a or EURUSD.raw. It reads that symbol's own settings.
Will MetaTrader updates break the tools?
They shouldn't. If an update ever stops a tool working, email us and we'll send a fixed version free of charge.
Education hub courses
Which courses do you offer?
TCM Forex Education (25 modules), TCM Futures Education (27 modules) and the TCM MQL4 & MQL5 Coding Course (15 modules). Forex and Futures are also sold together as a bundle for £400.
What format are the courses?
An interactive web course that opens in any browser, offline and with no login, plus a matching PDF to read or print. Each module has worked examples, live calculators, a practice task and a knowledge check. The Coding Course also includes MQL4 and MQL5 source files.
Can I use them on my phone or tablet?
Yes. The web course adapts to any screen and has a light and dark mode, and the PDF opens anywhere.
Do I need experience?
No. Forex and Futures Education start from the basics. The Coding Course assumes you can use MetaTrader but not that you've coded before.
Do the courses teach a trading strategy?
No. They teach how markets, contracts, costs and code work, and how to research and test an idea honestly. They don't sell a system or signals.
How long do I have access?
For life. The files are yours to keep, and you can download them again from your order page.
Is there support with the course?
Yes. Lifetime email support with anything in the course material. Send the module number with your question.
Can I share a course?
No. Each purchase is a personal licence for one person.
Custom builds
What can you build?
Expert Advisors and indicators for MT4, MT5 and the MQL5 Market from your own rules: any indicator combination, breakout, trend or session logic, risk management, dashboards, scanners and alerts. We also convert TradingView PineScript to MQL and MT4 to MT5.
How much does a custom build cost?
Custom EAs from £500 (from £1,000 with source code); custom indicators from £250 (from £500 with source). You get a fixed price after we've agreed the specification, before any work starts.
How long does it take?
It depends on the build. You get a fixed delivery date with your quote, and simple indicators are often ready within days.
What do you need from me?
Your rules (entry, exit, stop, target, risk), the symbols and timeframe, and two or three chart screenshots marked where it should act. A TradingView link or an existing indicator helps too. Use the request form.
Will you keep my strategy private?
Yes. Your rules are used only to build your tool. Custom work is never resold or reused for anyone else.
Who owns the finished tool?
You get a licence to use it on your accounts. With the source-code option you also receive the .mq4/.mq5 code and can rebrand it. What you may do with it is written into the specification before work starts.
What if it needs changes after delivery?
Every build includes 7 days of tweaks within the agreed specification. New features beyond the specification are quoted separately.
Can you build for cTrader or NinjaTrader?
Ask us. Conversions from MT4 or MT5 to other platforms are quoted case by case.
Will a custom EA be profitable?
We can't promise that. We code your rules as specified and test that the tool follows them. Whether the rules make money is down to the strategy and the market.
White label
What is white label?
We build MetaTrader tools that you sell under your own brand. Your name and copyright appear inside the tool, your customers get account-locked files, and you receive a branded PDF setup guide.
How much is white label?
One indicator £400 (£650 with source), one EA £600 (£900), three indicators £1,000 (£1,650), three EAs £1,500 (£2,250), or the full brand package of three EAs, three indicators and PDFs for £2,200 (£3,200 with source).
Can my customers' copies expire?
Yes. Licences can be set to 30 days, a year or lifetime, and locked to each customer's account number.
Who supports my customers?
You do. You're also responsible for your own marketing and risk disclaimer. We're the technical team behind the tools and don't deal with your customers or give them trading advice.
Free tools
Are the calculators really free?
Yes. The calculators for pip value, position size, margin, costs, futures ticks, expectancy and losing streaks are free to use in your browser, with no sign-up.
What is the free Risk & Position Size panel?
A free MT4 and MT5 panel that works out your lot size from your risk and stop, and shows the money at risk before you trade. It's unlocked and works on any symbol. Join the email list and we'll send it to you at launch.
Will you spam me if I join the list?
No. You'll get the panel and a short weekly note on tools and chart education. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and we never sell your details.
Do the calculators save my numbers?
Only in your own browser, so your last choice is there next time. Nothing you type is sent to us.
Refunds and support
Can I get a refund?
Yes, if a tool won't install or run as described and we can't fix it, if a course file is faulty, if we haven't sent your tool yet, or if you paid twice. Refunds aren't given for change of mind after download or for trading results. Full details are in the refund policy.
How do I get help?
Email thechartmechanics@outlook.com or use the contact form. We reply within 1 working day, Monday to Friday. For install problems, a screenshot of MetaTrader's Experts or Journal tab helps.
Do you offer setup help?
Yes. If you get stuck installing a tool, email us with what you see and we'll walk you through it.
Will I get updates?
Yes. Fixes and improvements to the version you bought are free, and we email you when one is ready.
Safety
Someone messaged me claiming to be you. Is it real?
We only contact you from thechartmechanics@outlook.com or through this website and our official Instagram and Facebook pages. We will never ask for your passwords, broker login, two-factor codes, remote access to your computer, or money sent to a personal account.
Is trading with your tools risky?
Yes. Trading leveraged products can lose money quickly, and losses can exceed deposits on some products. Read the risk warning and only trade money you can afford to lose.
